Biography

I was born in Erzurum in 1982. My family originally comes from Trabzon. My interest in medical science, and especially in cardiovascular diseases, came thanks to my late father (Prof. Dr. Ali Bayram), a cardiologist who loved his profession. After watching a heart operation during my medical training, my only wish for the future was to specialise in this field. I graduated from the faculty of medicine in 2007. For my specialty training I chose Florence Nightingale Hospital, one of the most established and prestigious clinics in this branch. I completed my residency in 2013 and became a ‘Specialist in Cardiovascular Surgery’, and in 2024 I received the title of ‘Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery’.

After completing my residency and becoming a specialist in Cardiovascular Surgery, I was appointed to Muş State Hospital for compulsory service. During the roughly two years I spent there, I contributed to establishing the infrastructure of that hospital’s Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic and performed some of the first cardiac and vascular treatments in Muş. In 2015 I was appointed to İstanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital. I made it a personal principle to learn and apply the newest surgical, angiographic and hybrid techniques in my field. I was invited as a speaker and instructor to many national and international events. In 2018 I completed my advanced training at Maastricht University in the Netherlands and Aachen University in Germany, focusing on the open and endovascular treatment of aortic diseases and on spinal cord protection. In 2024 I received the title of Associate Professor in my specialty and was appointed to a teaching position at the University of Health Sciences.

I built my professional life around coronary and structural heart operations as well as, in particular, the endovascular (angiographic), open and hybrid treatment of aortic diseases. In aortic patients for whom surgery carries a high risk, I developed my skills in EVAR-TEVAR with the PMEG (Physician Modified Endovascular Graft) technique and in hybrid aortic intervention options, which allows me to offer more comfortable results with less surgical risk. At Mehmet Akif Ersoy Heart Hospital, which has a very high patient volume, I took part in establishing the ’emergency aortic intervention team’ and worked as one of the few physicians serving on that team. I played an active role in enabling the Cardiovascular Surgery clinic to take part in angiographic treatments, and I brought this perspective into the training of resident physicians.

Alongside the frequently encountered problems of all non-cardiac vascular diseases, I have taken a close interest in the treatment of rare conditions that considerably impair quality of life, such as vascular dilatations, vascular compression syndromes, deep venous diseases and lymphatic diseases.

Through my articles in national and international congresses, meetings, medical books and journals, my oral presentations, my case reports that introduce rare diseases to the literature, and my chapters in national and international medical books, I continue to represent Turkish physicians and Turkish medicine in the scientific field as well.

I serve actively as a member of the Executive Board of the Aortic Diseases Study Group of the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery. I contribute to the training of our young colleagues and cardiac surgery residents in the diagnosis and treatment of aortic diseases, and to informing the public about aortic diseases.

I was appointed to the ‘Medical Device and Diagnostic Kit Scientific Board’ created within the Health Institutes of Türkiye to reduce dependence on foreign supply in healthcare. So that many of the materials and products used in my own field can be produced with domestic resources, I work as a team with fellow board members from different professions such as biomedical engineers, software developers and radiologists, and I play an active role in developing projects and products in this area.

After working for 11 years at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Heart Hospital and the University of Health Sciences, which provide care with next-generation treatment methods that make life easier both for us physicians and for you — such as robotic and minimally invasive operations and angiographic and hybrid surgical approaches — I moved to İstanbul Biruni University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 2026; at the same time I was appointed to this university’s academic staff and to the position of Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.

I continue my clinical practice, academic work, teaching and publishing in the modern infrastructure and scientific environment of Biruni University.
